I have news that I have wanted to share for some time now: I will become an aunt in September! My brother and his wife are having a baby girl and obviously, our families are over the moon excited and can’t wait to meet the newest member of the family. I have to admit that I have already lost my heart completely to the little one.

I wanted to make something unique and special for the little princess and decided that a warm baby blanket is something that a little one arriving in the world in fall might need.

I used 4,5mm circular needles (wide enough to fit in all the sts) and Drops Baby Merino yarn.

Cast on 150 sts. Continue with *knit 1, purl 1* the whole row. Turn your work and continue the same way on every row until your work is 7 cm:s long. You have created a pearl pattern on the bottom of the blanket.

Begin and end every row after that with 11sts *knit 1, purl 1* + knit 1 (another side purl 1) this way you’re creating the sides of the blanket.

The diamond pattern continues in the middle. The extra one line in the left appears only on the last diamond you create to continue the end of the side nicely. Remember that the diamond pattern goes the opposite way on every other round.

Continue doing the pearl and diamond patterns until your work is around 80 cm:s and then finish the work with pearl pattern for the last 7 cm:s.

  1. I remember when our first family arrived at our home which was my nephew. My mother knitted a nice warmer for him and she was so excited that she complete it within one day. I really enjoyed reading your article and it took me to the past. Thanks.

    1. Those are so precious memories. I’m glad I was able to remind you of them. I’m hoping to create such memories for my brother and his new family too so they can go back to them later :).

      1. Thank you! It was perfect!! This was my first marriage and my family lives in DC and me in St. Louis. I sent them a proposal box, my sister in law was my maid of honor and the two girls my bridesmaids. They threw a bridal shower and my high school friends attended (I am 50!) and my brother valet parked the cars! We had the very best time!! Keep all of the little things with your niece, and she will ask you to tell her stories about when she was little. They were the most happy for me! xoxo
